Paradise Now

I do not agree with Paradise Now being removed as a film award nominee. This well made film not only spoke from the perspective of men who felt the need to take their own lives to make their points known, but also represented people of the same ethnicity who felt the opposite way. By keeping such a film from being recognized due to controversy, artistic rights are being taken away. The film makes a statement, even if it is not one that all audiences approve of. By Paradise Now keeping it’s nomination more people will hear about the film and want to see it.

Films are nominated for awards based on how well they are made and how interesting the storyline is, among other aspects such as actors and production. All of the aspects a film is rated on are superior in Paradise Now. Yes, the story of two suicide bombers and their personal struggles is not one that is going to speak to all that see it. However, this film will induce conversation and force people to think about motivation behind such acts. Also, it is important to understand the country these bombers come from and why they feel they have privilege to kill others. Through opening the eyes of audiences and educating people, ignorance minimizes. Most people know suicide bombing portrayed in the film is a horrendous act done by selfish men who lack heroism.
